Ontario Greens stand against 2SLGBTQ+ hate
September 20, 2023
QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the 1 Million March 4 Kids protest opposing sexual orientation and gender identity curriculum in Canadian schools.
“Ontario Greens strongly condemn the anti-2SLGBTQ+ protests taking place across the country today.
There is absolutely no room for anti-2SLGBTQ+ hate in Ontario, or anywhere in Canada. I am deeply disappointed that this hateful rhetoric is rearing its ugly head in our communities.
These protests do harm and have nothing to do with protecting our kids. Any event, person or messaging that frames the exploration of gender and sexuality as deviant, explicit or morally wrong only puts our kids in harm’s way.
Right now, it’s more important than ever that we show up as allies for the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and take whatever action we can to protect our kids from hate, discrimination and bullying.
I am grateful to the organizations across Ontario who have made space for us to come together in solidarity with 2SLGBTQ+ communities and allies, and I am proud to be standing alongside Kitchener Centre candidate Aislinn Clancy at one of these events in Kitchener today.
Ontario Greens will always stand in solidarity with 2SLGBTQ+ youth. We know that love is stronger than hate, and that community is the antidote to fear and hate.”
