Schreiner: Clark’s refusal to resign a slap in the face to Ontarians
August 30, 2023
QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens leader and MPP for Guelph, Mike Schreiner, released the following statement in response to statements from Minister Clark and Premier Ford indicating that Minister Clark will continue to serve in his role as Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
“It’s appalling that, before the ink on the Integrity Commissioner’s damning report was even dry, the Premier’s Office released a statement indicating that Minister Clark would continue to serve in cabinet.
I’m outraged that the Premier and his minister are breaking all the rules so a handful of wealthy, well-connected developers can cash $8.3 billion at our expense.
Three things are clear to me.
First, Minister Clark must immediately resign, or otherwise must be dismissed.
Second, there must be a full, independent public inquiry into the corrupt process that led to the $8.3 billion Greenbelt scandal.
Third, all protected lands must be returned to the Greenbelt.
This is a dark day for our province. Ontarians are dismayed. Their dwindling trust in this government is now completely shattered.
They have told us loud and clear: enough is enough.
That’s why as elected leaders, we must do everything we can to restore and rebuild trust by delivering accountability.
If the Premier doesn’t see this, then he fundamentally doesn’t understand the people of Ontario.
Either that, or he just doesn’t care.”
