Minister Clark must be dismissed from government

August 30, 2023

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens leader and MPP for Guelph, Mike Schreiner, released the following statement in response to a report from Ontario’s Integrity Commissioner determined that Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark contravened sections of the Members’ Integrity Act by failing to oversee the process by which lands in the Greenbelt were selected for development.

“Minister Steve Clark must resign –or the Premier has an obligation to fire him.

The people of Ontario deserve accountability after today’s report from Integrity Commissioner David J. Wake confirms that housing minister Steve Clark contravened the Members’ Integrity Act by failing to oversee the corrupt process that saw a handful of wealthy, well-connected insiders make $8.3 billion on the sale of Greenbelt lands.

All along, the Minister has claimed that he had nothing to hide – that he had full confidence the Integrity Commissioner wouldn’t find anything.

Today’s report shows none of that was true.

Like so many Ontarians, I’m appalled.

This is unacceptable behaviour for an elected official, let alone one whose primary responsibility is to bring forward solutions to Ontario’s housing crisis.

In addition to the immediate dismissal of Minister Clark, I’m calling for an independent public inquiry into the Ford government’s $8.3 billion Greenbelt giveaway and the return of all removed lands to Ontario’s Greenbelt.”
