Greenbelt secrecy from Ford’s camp raises more questions about what they want to cover up

GUELPH — Ontario Greens leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that two prominent developers who stand to benefit from the Ford government’s Greenbelt land grab have filed court applications to block or delay their participation in the Auditor General’s Greenbelt investigation.

“Another day, another Conservative insider trying to keep important information about this government’s Greenbelt land grab out of public hands.

Over and over, this government has insisted that there is nothing to hide when it comes to their decision to open massive swaths of Greenbelt land for development.

If that’s the case, then why the continued attempts to hide information that would clear the air?

These backroom deals erode trust and confidence in the government – and they highlight the real reason for Ford’s Greenbelt giveaway.

We do not need Greenbelt land for housing. We need homes that people can afford, in connected communities built for people, not speculators.

The silence from Ford’s camp shows that there’s something they want to cover up – and Ontarians deserve to know what that is.”
