Ontario Greens mobilizing opposition to Ford’s sprawl agenda

April 21, 2023

TORONTO — Between Friday, April 21 and Sunday, April 23, Ontario Greens and allies across Ontario are organizing over 40 events to take action against Doug Ford’s reckless sprawl agenda.

“All over the place, we see proof that this government’s housing schemes are failing the people of Ontario,” said Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner.

“The government is hanging them out to dry while bulldozing ahead with a sprawl-at-all-costs agenda that’s bad for our health, bad for the environment, and bad for your wallet.”

Schreiner says that the Ford government’s recent spate of attacks on responsible planning are designed to open the floodgates to unchecked sprawl while doing little to address the causes of the housing affordability crisis.

This weekend, Ontario Greens and allies will host over 40 events in communities across Ontario to stand up for the people and places we love and say no to sprawl – ranging from interpretive wetland tours to high-school walkouts to door-knocking events.

“It’s not fair that the only homes this government cares about are hours away from the places people live, work and play,” said Schreiner.

“Everyone deserves an affordable place to live in a connected community designed for people – close to jobs, family, shops and transit.

“It’s people power that’s going to push the Ford government to walk back on their destructive schemes and commit to building the homes we can afford in the communities we want to live in. So that’s what we’re putting on the table – people power.”
