The calls to double ODSP are growing – but is Doug Ford listening?

September 6, 2022

Ontario Greens leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement:

TORONTO — Ontario Greens leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement:“Exactly a year ago, I was the first party leader in Ontario to call on the Ford government to double the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

I have repeated that demand many times in the ensuing months – and I am happy now to see that at least one of the other opposition parties has joined me in calling out this injustice.

It is wrong for the Ford government to force people with disabilities to live in legislated poverty.

The Premier must listen to those in need and immediately double ODSP rates and then tie future increases to inflation.

The cost of everything including food, shelter and transportation is increasing at an alarming rate. The 5% ODSP increase the Premier proposes is totally inadequate to address the challenges people on ODSP are facing.

In Ontario in 2022, people should not be forced to choose between paying rent or putting food on the table.”
