Schreiner & Saxe: Greens are the only party with a climate plan that meets the moment

TORONTO — We are in a climate emergency. And Ontario Greens are the only party with a climate plan that meets the moment.

“Greens are the only party that’s serious about tackling the climate emergency,” Dianne Saxe, candidate for University-Rosedale and the former Environmental Commissioner for Ontario, said.

“The half measures and no measures of the other parties won’t cut it,” Schreiner said. “We need urgent action to build a climate-ready, livable future where Ontario is a global leader in the new climate economy. We need more Green MPPs at Queen’s Park to deliver on the climate solutions we need.”

Only Greens are fully committed to tackling the climate emergency, with an ambitious, detailed, fully-costed and doable plan that meets the crisis moment we are in.

Meanwhile…

PCs:

• Have spent the past four years dismantling environmental protections
• Pretend highways are a climate solution
• Will increase climate pollution from electricity by 400%
• Won’t meet their own weak climate targets
• Scrapped over 750 renewable energy contracts
• Are paving over nature and farmland
• Only mentions “climate” five times in the 268 page budget
• Won’t lead Ontario into the new climate economy

NDP:

• Rely on fantasy financing to fund their Green plan – they cannot collect $30 billion from Ontario industries by 2026, and would put our steel plants out of business if they tried
• Voted with Doug Ford to give more than $1 billion/ year to cars (through the licence plate sticker election gimmick and cancelling road tolls), which will increase climate pollution and support sprawl. This money ought to go to mental healthcare.
• Set climate targets that they cannot meet, with no consequences if they don’t
• Voted to keep the dangerous Line 5 oil pipeline running, which threatens the Great Lakes
• No serious plan for adapting infrastructure for climate resilience
• Only lined up to oppose Highway 413, Bradford Bypass and sprawl after Greens led the way

Liberals:

• Have a timid climate plan that’s way too small, can’t achieve what they claim
• Identified no source of funding for their climate plan
• Voted with Doug Ford to give more than $1 billion/ year to cars (through the licence plate sticker election gimmick and cancelling road tolls), which will increase climate pollution and support sprawl. This money ought to go to mental healthcare.
• Set climate targets that they cannot meet, with no consequences if they don’t
• Only lined up to oppose Highway 413 and sprawl after Greens led the way
• Still won’t commit to cancel destructive highways through the Greenbelt, like the Holland Marsh Highway
• No plan to increase electricity to replace fossil fuels
• History of failing to enforce the Endangered Species Act
• No plan to phase out fossil gas
