TORONTO — Mike Schreiner made the following statement regarding mental health:
“Accessing mental health care should not be a privilege or a luxury.
But for too many people across Ontario, it’s something that is inaccessible, unaffordable and out of reach.
Many Ontarians may never receive the treatment they need.
Mental health is health, and it needs to be equitably accessible for all.
We know what the solutions are:
Immediately investing $150 million per year to reduce youth mental health wait times to no more than 30 days.
Removing all barriers to accessing care so Ontarians can get treatment where they need it, when they need it.
Declaring the opioid crisis a public health emergency and ending the arbitrary cap on safe consumption sites.
Let’s make mental health a priority so we can build a healthier and more caring Ontario.”
