TORONTO — Friday’s announcement revealing plans for the revitalization of Ontario Place was a missed opportunity by the Ford government to create a large provincial park in the heart of Toronto.

“While we’re encouraged by Premier Ford’s promise that the new plans for Ontario Place will have large spaces for public, accessible, gathering places, it is a missed opportunity for creating a massive provincial park, or green space that could have been the lungs of Toronto,” said Ontario Green Deputy Leader, Abhijeet Manay.

“Such a park would not only have helped mitigate the effects of climate change but also provided much needed greenspaces for the city. We hope the greenspaces in Ford’s plan are expanded to help address these issues.”

In addition to hopes for expanded greenspace, Ontario Greens are calling on the Premier to ensure rapid transit to the site and completing the last mile are top priority.

It is imperative that the public has affordable and accessible transportation options to access Ontario Place, particularly public spaces.
