QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to a memo that the government may cut $1.6 billion in supports for schools:
“Ford has failed to support students and schools.
It unfortunately comes as no surprise that the government is planning to cut all $1.6 billion in school supports.
The Ford government has consistently underfunded and deprioritized education.
They cut thousands of teaching jobs in 2019.
And failed to proactively invest in the proper safety measures like smaller class sizes, proper ventilation, adequate PPE, and asymptomatic testing during COVID.
It’s impossible to know what the pandemic will look like come September. Cutting all additional COVID-19 supports is reckless and irresponsible. Teachers and students have suffered enough, with mismanagement by the government and confusing messaging on closures and reopenings.”
