QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner issued the following statement about the drop in COVID-19 testing across Ontario:
“It’s troubling to see Ontario’s COVID-19 testing numbers going in the wrong direction, with just over 2,500 tests completed in the last 24 hours.
As we approach the peak of this pandemic, we should be doing more testing, not less.
Ontario ranks at the bottom of provincial per-capita testing, and Ontarians deserve to know why the number of daily tests are going down.
For weeks the Health Minister has promised to increase Ontario’s testing capacity, but the trendline contradicts those promises.
With outbreaks among healthcare workers and long-term care residents, we need assurances these at-risk groups can be tested quickly and accurately.
Most health experts say that broad testing is essential to flattening the curve.”
