Schreiner statement on FAO report
March 11, 2020
TORONTO — Mike Schreiner released the following statement after the FAO released its long-term budget outlook:
“The FAO report shows that the Premier’s plan to limit spending or freeze funding in core public services carries significant risk.
In the past, governments have had to play catch-up to meet the high demand for public services after periods of austerity.
If the Premier’s reorganization of our healthcare system fails, our fiscal position will be worse down the road, with an even higher debt burden.
I continue to maintain that we cannot cut our way to prosperity.
We must find new sources of revenue to sustain the healthcare, education, and social services we all depend on.”
