Ford wasted time and money playing politics with education
August 21, 2019
TORONTO — Green Party of Ontario Leader, Mike Schreiner, released the following statement after the release of the new sex-ed curriculum:
“For all the noise and bluster over the modern sex-ed curriculum, the Conservatives have essentially rolled out the 2015 curriculum with some minor adjustments.
For months the government created unnecessary disruption and fear among students and educators that LGBTQ+ rights were not going to be respected in schools.
But clearly this was nothing but a ploy to divide voters in the previous election.
In the span of a year, educators have had to sort through no less than four different health and physical education curriculums – from 1998, 2015, a revised hybrid version and today’s.
The truth is that the vast majority of parents supported the 2015 curriculum, and doing a repeat of that consultation just confirmed this.
I’m disappointed that Ford decided to waste time and money exploiting divisions and disrupting schools with his attacks on the modern sex-ed curriculum, diverting attention from his cuts to education and raising of classroom sizes.
All of this could have been avoided if Ford hadn’t played politics with education.”
