Government has it completely backwards on Ontario wildlife
May 30, 2019
TORONTO — Mike Schreiner released the following statement after cuts to invasive species protection programs:
“When it comes to managing our natural resources, this government has it all backwards.
We’re harming endangered species who need protection from us, but laying out the welcome mat for invasive species that we need protection from.
It makes no sense. And it will lead to real damage.
Species-at-risk will be pushed to the brink with Bill 108, but invasive species that pose a real threat to our ecosystems and our economy are being welcomed with open arms.
Invasive species programs are essential for protecting our natural areas, including rivers, lakes and wild spaces where hunters and anglers recreate.
If the government truly cared about fishers and hunters as it claims, it would not be threatening the health and viability natural habitat.”
