Steep job losses to come after education overhaul
March 15, 2019
TORONTO — Green Party of Ontario Leader Mike Schreiner released this statement following the announcement of the education overhaul:
“Increasing class sizes will lead to job cuts and fewer teachers to educate students.
The Minister’s promise of no job losses does not square with a dramatic 27% increase in class sizes for grades 9-12. When this government promises job security, the opposite tends to happen.
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation estimates increasing class sizes will cause a loss of 5,500 positions in Ontario high schools.
How will this move benefit students or increase education quality?”
