Premier treats electric vehicles like a four-letter word
February 14, 2019
TORONTO — Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the province's announcement of new funding for the auto sector:
“The Premier is out of touch with the future of the auto industry.
Global automakers will spend $255 billion on R&D for electric vehicles through 2023, yet the Premier’s plan makes absolutely no mention of electric vehicles.
Instead of leaping into the $26 trillion clean economy, Ford treats electric vehicles like a four-letter word. His silence flies in the face of industry forecasts that that EVs will make up a 40%-50% share of the global auto market by 2040.
Why does this government continue to hold onto the old economy and close the door on the fast growing clean economy? To prosper, we need to skate where the puck is going, not where it was.
The Premier’s ideological opposition to the clean economy is bad for our planet and bad for our bottom line.”
