Green Party statement on EV charging stations
January 10, 2019
TORONTO — The Green Party of Ontario released the following statement in response to the news that Metrolinx has removed EV chargers from GO station parking lots:
“We respect that Metrolinx made a business decision, but it’s a short-sighted one that will end up costing the people of Ontario more in the long-run.
Decisions about our transportation infrastructure should be made with an eye to the future and it’s indisputable that the future of driving is electric.
Global automakers are spending $255 billion through 2023 on research and development alone and by 2040 it’s predicted that 55% of all new vehicles will be electric.
Perhaps if the PC government wasn’t hostile to the low-carbon economy, then provincial agencies and the private sector would feel more confident making clean technology investments in Ontario.”
