April 11, 2017 marks Equal Pay Day in Ontario – a day to raise awareness of the wage inequality that exists between men and women in the labour market.
In this province, women earn roughly 73.5 percent of what men do, which means it takes a woman in Ontario until April of the following year to earn what a man does in the 12 months of the year prior.
The gender wage gap isn’t just a problem in Ontario – it’s the reality for working women across the country and around the world. We must ensure that we push to make closing the pay gap a priority moving forward and take action to develop a fair economy for all Ontarians.
The GPO supports efforts to ensure access to full-time, fair-paying jobs for women across the province. We must continue to work toward a more equal province for all.
