Today, we reaffirm our commitment to human rights.

Human Rights Day has been observed every year on December 10th since 1948, recognizing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly.

Now more than ever, we need to stand up for human rights and reaffirm our basic humanity.

The Green Party of Ontario is committed to defending the rights of those at risk of prejudice and discrimination. We actively promote tolerance and acceptance, characteristics exhibited in our core values: social justice, non-violence, gender equality, diversity, and personal and global responsibility. We support policies that ensure respect, dignity and safety for all Ontarians.

Although Ontario has made progress in addressing human rights concerns, we have work to do to push back against prejudice, intolerance, discrimination and all forms of hate. We must continue to advance reconciliation with our indigenous brothers and sisters. And we can open our hearts and borders to refugees, while asking our federal government to put pressure on governments around the world that violate human rights.
