(Toronto, ON) Green Party of Canada leader Elizabeth May and Green Party of Ontario leader Mike Schreiner issued this statement on the 2016 Pride Parade:
“Pride is a unique opportunity to celebrate, reflect and remember,” said GPO Leader Mike Schreiner.
“This is especially true this year as we remember the victims in Orlando this month. Together, we mourn the lives lost and injured. We send our love to the friends and families of those affected. And we stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.”
“We are proud to march today and honour those who came before us and fought hard for rights and freedoms that we in Ontario and Canada benefit from today,” Mr. Schreiner concluded.
“We should all be proud of how far we have come on our path toward acceptance and inclusivity, but we are not there yet. We must continue to work toward making our communities more tolerant and safe for everyone, including those in the LGBTQ+ community,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands).
“We are committed to ensuring our province and country provide a welcoming, safe and equal place for all people.
“A big thanks to all the organizers, attendees and marchers for the 2016 Toronto Pride activities. By working together, we will continue to push for political change that promotes inclusivity and human rights,” Ms. May concluded.
