Green Party of Ontario leader Mike Schreiner and GPO Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade critic Robert Kiley issued the following statement on World Refugee Day:
Ontario should continue to open our hands and hearts to those in need. With millions of displaced peoples, we have the means to help the most vulnerable in the global community.
According to the United Nations Human Rights Commission by the end of 2014 there were a staggering 59.5 Million forcibly displaced people worldwide.
We can and must do more to help community organizations, non-profits, and faith communities in the sponsorship and ongoing support of refugees. The GPO will continue to push for responsible, compassionate immigration and settlement policies in Ontario.
