Today, on International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia we are reminded of the progress that we have made in creating a more inclusive society. But we are also aware of how much work still needs to be done to ensure that our communities are free from discrimination.
We must ensure that all Ontarians feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of being bullied or ostracized. We must take the time to comfort and provide support for those who are are struggling with their own gender identity or expression. All citizens have the right to be treated with respect and accepted in their community. Everyone deserves human rights protections, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
As Ontarians, it is critical that we celebrate diversity and applaud those who have the courage to speak out against hatred. Together, we can work toward true equality.
