GPO leader Mike Schreiner issued the following statement in response to the terrorist attacks this past weekend:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Paris and everyone touched by violence and the fear of terrorist acts.

It is difficult to make sense of indiscriminate violence directed at people going about their daily lives, though we can find some comfort in the outpouring of support for the people of France from around the world.

We must be united in condemning terrorist acts. We are stronger when we are united in the face of unspeakable tragedy and senseless violence.

Vengeful acts of violence fuelled by misplaced rage is not the answer. On behalf of GPO, I want to condemn in the harshest way possible the arson directed at a mosque in Peterborough. Such acts of violence directed at our follow Ontarians have no place in our province.

At a time like this, it is especially important that we not break the solidarity, friendship, and respect that we have for one another. Our country and our province is a better place when we welcome and embrace people of all cultures, religions and backgrounds. Only by embracing one another can we stand up against terrorism and work toward a lasting peace.”
