Today marks the beginning of Ramadan, during which members of the Muslim community from around the world dedicate themselves to a month-long period of reflection, fasting, and prayer. This holy month is characterized by a sense of compassion, humility, and perseverance through adversity, as well as the disciplines of unselfishness, altruism, and kindness, attributes that all Ontarians should strive for.
Ramadan reminds us that we live in a province that is ethnically, culturally, and religiously diverse. During Ramadan, as Muslims gather each night for iftar and share their Ramadan traditions with friends, family, neighbours, and co-workers, let us remind ourselves of the mutual respect we share for one another and the harmony in which we live. Strong bonds of community, family, and friendship are at the core of every Ontarian.
As the month of Ramadan progresses, the GPO would like to encourage all to take the time to reflect on the fortunate aspects of our lives and our commitment to helping those in need.
