Now’s your chance to speak out and protect your local food supply by calling on Ontario to reduce the use of bee-killing neonicotinoid pesticides.

The Green Party has worked with environmental NGOs to push the government to take action to protect bees. Mike Schreiner made this a key issue in the Green Party’s provincial campaign.

The government has answered our call to protect bees by proposing an 80 percent reduction in neonicotinoid pesticides by 2017. Although this is not the complete ban Greens strongly pushed for, it is an important step in protecting our food supply.

But the chemical companies are putting pressure on the government to back off their plan. With devastating bee deaths increasing year over year, and 30% of our crops at risk, we need Ontario to push back and follow through.

The Government of Ontario is currently accepting comments on their proposal. Your voice will make a big difference in saving bees and the food crops they pollinate.

You have until this Sunday, January 25 to tell the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture how you feel by submitting your comments to the Environmental Registry here.

Not sure what to say? Here is a sample comment you can copy and paste, or use as a guide to get you started.

Thanks for taking the time to make a difference.
