Green Party of Ontario leader Mike Schreiner made the following statement in response to the Equiterre and OCAA announcement regarding the Darlington refurbishment:
Queen’s Park – “It makes no sense for the Liberal government to waste billions on the Darlington refurbishment when lower cost water power from Quebec is available.
No nuclear project in Ontario has ever come in on time or on budget. The Darlington refurbishment will be no different. It is already over budget before construction work has even begun.
Ontario cannot allow energy separatism to push the province further into debt and increase electricity prices even more.
Replacing Darlington with lower cost water power would save Ontario $12 billion over the next twenty years.
The Green Party will push the government to invest those savings in your home. Home retrofits are proven job creators, a powerful stimulus to local economies and a cool way to reduce the carbon footprint of your home.”
