GPO Leader Mike Schreiner's statement on the start of Passover

Passover begins this evening at sunset. On behalf of the Green Party of Ontario I would like to extend holiday greetings to everyone who will be celebrating. 
Passover is a time for family and friends to gather together for traditional Seder dinners and to reflect on this important holiday’s themes of peace and freedom.
 
This morning my daughter asked me why Passover exists. I explained that it commemorates the liberation of the Jewish people from slavery and oppression in ancient Egypt. And it provides all of us with a moment to reflect on the need to free all people from discrimination and persecution. 
 
Today is a time to thank the Jewish community for your inspiring story of liberation and for the opportunity to celebrate the blessings of a free society.
