Mike Schreiner, leader of the Green Party of Ontario made the following statement for Earth Hour, 2014:
“This evening, for one hour, I invite you to join me in switching off our lights to raise awareness for the ongoing fight against climate change.
We are blessed with a beautiful province which climate change threatens. We are already feeling the impacts of climate change and Earth Hour reminds us that we need to act: we must address the real and escalating problem of climate change to make sure that our province and planet remain vibrant, healthy and whole.
It’s critical that we deliver this message to Queen’s Park. The financial and environmental costs of climate change are rapidly growing and we need to take decisive actions to ensure that it doesn’t get worse.
We need to support a low carbon, clean tech economy of the future and put the right incentives and policies in place to reward Ontarians and businesses for reducing their impact on the environment. It’s time to stop playing politics with our energy policy. The gas plant scandal shows us just how costly these political games can be.
Let’s create a future where climate change is no longer a threat and make every hour Earth Hour.
Together, we can make a difference.”
