For Immediate Release
Toronto – Green Party leader Mike Schreiner is calling on MPPs to vote against Bill 39, which would kill green energy and conservation programs in Ontario.

“PC efforts to kill green energy destroy opportunities for farmers, small businesses, Aboriginal and community groups to create local jobs and economic benefits from generating clean energy,” says Schreiner.

In addition to cancelling the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program for green energy, Bill 39 restricts conservation programs.

“It makes no sense for Conservatives to be against conservation,” adds Schreiner. “The cheapest and greenest source of energy is the energy we save. Stopping programs that help people save money by saving energy will increase costs for everyone.”

The GPO rejects the false choice between the Conservative’s efforts to kill green energy and the Liberal approach that puts corporate profits before community benefits. The Green Party continues to call for a community FIT program that requires local ownership, local decision making and community benefits.

“The PCs short sighted, politically expedient efforts to kill green energy will hurt our economy and set Ontario back a generation,” says Schreiner. “We need a community FIT program that puts local ownership before corporate profits.
