I am saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Robert Elgie. Dr. Elgie served as an MPP from 1977 to 1985.
Dr. Elgie represented a bygone era in Ontario politics. He promoted the politics of cooperation, decorum and non-partisanship. Although he served as a Progressive Conservative, he was kind enough to open his home to me in 2011. He told me that Ontario was a better place with diverse voices offering new ideas.
Dr. Elgie was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2003 for his many achievements in and out of politics. We have lost an accomplished and outstanding public servant.
I extend my sincere condolences to Dr. Elgie’s family, friends and colleagues.
