Statement from Green Party leader Mike Schreiner on National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women:
“Today is a day of remembrance and reflection, as we mark the anniversary of the massacre at Polytechnique, where 14 women lost their lives, and more were injured.
Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those that were lost that day, and all victims of violence.
We must never allow the tragedy of that day to be repeated.
Women play an essential role in our society and in each of our daily lives. Violence against women has negative affects on our society, families and communities.
We urge all Ontarians to take action today and everyday to address the challenges women face, and to push against the attitudes that lead to violence against women.”
