Schreiner has unprecedented support as he kicks off historic Guelph campaign

A packed room of community members and supporters from across the province was on hand 
Tuesday evening for Green Party leader Mike Schreiner’s historic campaign kick off to represent Guelph as Ontario’s first Green MPP.
 
“I’m honoured to receive such strong support from the Guelph community,” says Schreiner. “Folks from businesses, non-profits and community groups are coming together to push for positive change. The status quo isn’t working at Queen’s Park, and with Green leadership from Guelph, we can do better.
 
Green Party support surged with last week’s federal by-election that saw federal Green candidates gain significant support over the previous election, and within 1300 votes of a win in Victoria.
 
“We’ve all seen what Elizabeth May, recently voted as Parliamentarian of the Year, has brought to the House of Commons: hard-work, integrity and outstanding leadership,” says Schreiner. “I will bring this same leadership to Queen’s Park. I will be a voice for Guelph and for Ontario. I will stand up for important issues that the old parties refuse to touch, like eliminating costly subsidies for pollution to foster innovation and local job creation.” 
 
Recent internal polling has shown the Schreiner campaign is within striking distance of victory. Over half of surveyed respondents were somewhat or much more likely to vote Green with the Provincial Green leader as the candidate in Guelph. The Green Party also led results as the second choice of likely swing voters.
 
Historic election results for Green Party candidates in Guelph have been as high as 21%, with a true four-way split. The Green Party is going all-in in Guelph and has committed to following the same strategy that elected Elizabeth May last year. This puts the Schreiner campaign in a good position to win the Green Party’s first seat in Provincial Parliament.
