Statement from Mike Schreiner
On behalf of the Green Party of Ontario, I would like to congratulate Elizabeth May on her first anniversary as Canada’s first elected Green MP. Elizabeth’s victory in Saanich-Gulf Islands gave Canadians across the country a strong voice for positive change toward a sustainable future.
In her first year as an MP, Elizabeth has shown the difference just one Green MP can make.
Her accomplishments have included:
- Keeping climate change in the national conscience through speeches and the Keep Kyoto Campaign;
- Attending the Durban climate talks as an advisor to the government of Papua New Guinea after being blocked by Harper’s Conservatives from attending with Canada;
- Being the first to call for a non-partisan full public inquiry into the Robocall Scandal;
- Speaking out against the Omnibus crime bill by submitting more amendments to the bill than any other party in the House.
Elizabeth continues to challenge all MPs from every party to improve the decorum in the House and to conduct themselves in a way that will make Canadians proud. She works tirelessly to represent her constituents in Saanich-Gulf Islands and green voices across Canada.
Thank you, Elizabeth, for a job well done. Canada is a better place because of your efforts.
