TORONTO – The Green Party of Ontario extends congratulations to the Green Party of Canada, Adriana Mugnatto-Hamu and her wonderful team for a well-fought campaign in Toronto-Danforth.
“Adriana and her team did a great job talking about solutions to clean up politics, improve air quality, and enrich the lives of residents in Toronto-Danforth with long-term answers for tough challenges,” said GPO leader Mike Schreiner. “I enjoyed knocking on doors with Adriana, attending town halls and celebrating with a great team of volunteers who worked hard to share our Green vision.”
Adriana was neck and neck with the Conservative candidate for much of the night, finishing with nearly 5% of the vote. NDP candidate Craig Scott won the riding with almost 60% of the votes. Voter turnout for the by-election was 43.4%.
“This was a unique by-election prompted by a sad occasion. Mr. Craig’s victory is a tribute to the important legacy of Jack Layton,” said Schreiner.
The GPO thanks everyone who voted and gave time to participate in the election. Your contribution to our democracy is valued.
