Ottawa, Ontario – The Green Party of Ontario supports the City of Ottawa’s Ottawa River Action Plan and sees the construction of a
combined sewage overflow storage facility as an important step in
improving water quality in the Ottawa River.

“The Green Party stands for protecting Ontario’s clean air and water.
The province must do its part to help cities be responsible stewards of
the environment and that’s why the Green Party has budgeted $71 million
per year for clean air and water projects”, said Kevin O’Donnell, Green
Party candidate in Ottawa Centre. “A combined sewage storage facility
will enable Ottawa’s existing facilities to treat more water instead of
dumping raw sewage into the river. The river will be healthier and our
beaches will be open more often.”

The Green Party is focused on investments that lower stress on our
infrastructure, save Ontarians money and improve quality of life. By
making connections between the quality of air and water and our health,
we can build communities that are healthier for residents and for our
environment.

“We are dedicated to improving the health of all Ontarians. One of the
ways we intend to do that is by standing up for clean air and water.”,
said Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner. “We need to help municipalities
take the necessary steps to improve the quality of their water through
infrastructure investments.”

It’s time for a long-term, sustainable infrastructure plan that will keep us healthy and build strong, resilient communities.
