“Public services should be open to the public. The Ontario Ombudsman’s annual report, released today, validates the Green Party’s call for open, transparent, and accountable government – government that works for people.
We need to ensure that when our hard earned tax dollars are spent, citizens receive the quality services we deserve. That’s why, in line with other provinces, the Green Party of Ontario supports the Ombudsman’s call for oversight of the MUSH sector – Municipalities, Universities, School Boards and Hospitals. The Green Party especially supports Ombudsmen oversight of Children’s Aid Societies so that our most vulnerable have recourse when government does not provide appropriate care.
The old parties don’t understand that citizens are more connected, engaged and knowledgeable than ever before. The Green Party’s five-point plan calls for open government that respects and engages citizens and communities; a government committed to building partnerships with communities to develop sensible solutions. It’s time for more democracy, not less.”
