The Green Party of Ontario welcomes Don Marshall to the growing Green team. Last night, Don won the Green Party nomination in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
“I’m excited to have Don on the Green team. He is a popular municipal councillor and local business owner who can bring some sense to Queen’s Park as the voice for people in Bruce Grey Owen Sound,” said Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario. “Don ran a fantastic grassroots campaign to win the nomination, and we are looking forward to running our strongest campaign in Bruce-Grey Owen Sound to date.”
Don is a small business owner in Durham. He is a two-term councillor for the Municipality of West Grey, and was the top vote getter in both the 2007 and 2010 municipal campaigns. His strong grassroots nomination campaign included tripling the local membership and bringing many supporters to the nomination meeting. With Don’s local network and strong party backing from across the province, the Green campaign is a serious contender in the upcoming provincial election.
“I’m looking forward to running a strong campaign, getting out to every corner of the riding and listening to as many people as possible. My priorities are to promote local jobs by supporting small businesses and cutting the regulations that are hurting our local businesses, especially abattoirs in the area. I will be a strong voice for people in Bruce Grey Owen Sound and will shake things up at Queen’s Park.”, said Don Marshall.
In the 2007 provincial election, 354,897 Ontarians voted Green, with Green Party candidates placing second or third in 18 ridings. Green Party of Ontario candidates have also placed third in two recent by-elections. Nationally, Elizabeth May became the first Green MP in the House of Commons in the May 2nd, 2011 federal election.
The Green Party of Ontario was the first provincial party to release their election platform, which can be found at www.itstimeforgreen.ca.
