Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario, is calling out the old parties at Queen’s Park for the early ending to a legislative session characterized by increasing partisan rhetoric that presented false choices for Ontario.

Schreiner expressed disappointment that the government allowed the home energy savings program to expire on March 31st at a time when people are struggling to deal with rising energy prices. Schreiner continues to call for a Green building program to help Ontarians use energy more efficiently, generating savings on monthly bills and reducing the amount of money the province will need to invest in new sources of generation.

The Green Party believes the Liberals and Conservatives are offering false choices on electrical generation. The top down, bureaucratic approach to green energy by the McGuinty Liberals is driving communities apart and prioritizing grid access to multi-national corporations over local projects. The short-sighted Conservative plan to kill green energy is a slap in the face to businesses, individuals, farmers, First Nations and community groups investing in safe, renewable energy projects.

Only the Green Party has a plan that calls for real community participation and local input on energy decisions, while creating job opportunities in communities across the province.

The Green Party is also concerned that the old parties failed to address the sustainability of our health care system.  Greens are pushing for more value for money in health with a focus on preventing illness and better planning for our aging population. Schreiner is calling for a continuum of care for seniors to improve quality and reduce hospital costs by investing in home care, transition and long-term care for seniors.
