Randy began coming to the Muskoka’s as a cottager more than 20 years ago and although he leads a transient lifestyle this is where he calls home. For years he has worked for Algonquin Outfitters in the bike department and as a canoe tripping guide.
Thunder Bay was his home for 4 years while he completed his undergraduate degree at Lakehead University. For two years he worked full time as a teacher at Rosseau Lake College and for 3 years he taught part time at the Muskoka Montessori School.
At the Age of 25 Randy took his bike and peddled throughout Australia for 6 months where he discovered his passion for cycle touring. This led him to the tourism industry and the Tour d’Afrique, a Toronto based cycle touring company. Between 03’-09’, leading their expeditions, Randy rode his bike more than 75,000km through 32 different countries in Africa, the Americas and Europe. During this period he also completed the Adventure Guide Diploma at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC.
Randy has a birthmark which covers most of the right side of his face. For more than 15 years he has worked as a volunteer for AboutFace, a non-medical support group for people with facial differences. Presently Randy works for them as their Camp Director, fundraiser and programs facilitator and he also works as an instructor TRU in BC during the winter season. His presentation will outline his travels and adventures, how he follows his dreams and how being different has empowered him.
