NEWS
Mike Schreiner was elected one year ago as leader of the Green Party of Ontario (GPO). Since that time, Schreiner’s leadership and focus has established a professional party organization, including reaching ambitious fundraising targets and organizational growth.
For the first time in GPO history, Mike Schreiner is a full-time party leader. He has visited over a hundred communities across the province listening to concerned local residents.
Schreiner is committed to standing up for strong, sustainable communities, where citizens have the power and resources they need to build prosperous local economies. He has joined with community members to oppose the plaecement of gas plants in Oakville and the Holland Marsh and championed the need to honour the government’s commitment to Solar MicroFIT participants.
Schreiner continues to focus the party around three broad themes:
● Building a prosperous 21st century economy;
● Fostering strong communities; and
● Promoting the health and well-being of all Ontarians.
QUOTES – Mike Schreiner, Leader, GPO
“The old parties at Queen’s Park are out of touch. It’s time for a new approach to governing, an approach where government partners with citizens and communities to develop sensible solutions, not back room deals and top down bureaucracies.
It’s time for a political party that stands up for local businesses and family farms; that connects the dots on healthy food, the environment and health care; and that has a vision for a prosperous 21st century economy.
QUICK FACTS
● Green Party members elected Schreiner at the GPO Leadership and Annual Policy Conference, taking place in London, Ontario from November 13-15, 2009;
