Update From the Demographics Survey

In March 2021, a self identification and inclusion survey was sent out to all GPO members. Overall there was strong response for the survey with 820 responses.

Below, you can find a few highlights from the survey, followed by notes on our strategy and focus for this next year.

Thank those who took the time to fill out and give feedback on the survey. Over the next year we will continue to communicate our progress and results with you and how you can get involved.

2021 Diversity and Inclusion Strategy Focus

Our focus for 2021 will focus on recruitment and candidate representation of people of colour, particularly women of colour and younger people of colour.

Education

Make training and resources available across the party.

Engagement

Create partnerships and engage stakeholders to help drive the strategy forward.

Media/Marketing:

Expand the current audience the GPO reaches online.

Tactics

  • Unconscious bias in decision making training @ convention
  • Campaigning training for marginalized candidates
  • Make ongoing learning available through CultureAlly D&I software
  • Create relationships with community groups/centres in areas of recruitment focus.
  • Hold frequent D&I stakeholder meeting to report on results
  • Review website and inclusion policy
  • Increased social media presence on platforms for younger generations
  • Look into paid recruitment advertising
