Marlene Spruyt

Marlene is a retired Medical Officer of Health and family physician. Although a lifelong environmentalist she has become progressively more alarmed at the lack of action with respect to minimizing the harmful effects of climate change. While the general public appears to have become more aware of and concerned about environmental issues, our governments have still been slow to act. This motivated her to support the actions of the Green Party of Ontario.

Individual actions are significant, however to maximize individual engagement and to shift the commercial sector away from dependence on fossil fuels we need broader and stronger policy shifts at all levels of government and comprehensive supports for families and businesses as they transition to a carbon neutral economy. Her previous public health experience in topics such as poverty reduction, health equity, food insecurity, clean water and active transportation provides a basis for supporting the vulnerable populations that are likely to be more negatively impacted by climate change.
