QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement after OPG spent $2.8 billion to purchase three natural gas plants:
“Spending billions to buy gas plants will not move Ontario toward a cleaner, healthier or safer energy system.
Now is not the time to double down on fossil fuel powered plants. It’s economically risky and environmentally irresponsible.
Ontario is getting further away from its climate targets because this government continues to rip up clean energy projects and ramp up dirty ones.
Climate pollution actually rose in 2018 under the government’s Made-to-Fail climate plan.
The recovery from COVID-19 should be powered by affordable, clean, healthy renewable energy that we can be proud of rather than oil and gas.”
