Janelle Yanishewski is a task-oriented, big picture deliverer dedicated to creating a more just Canadian society in every way. As a candidate for Don Valley North she brings experience as a non-profit professional, mother and wife. She wants to build a Toronto that will thrive well into the future. She believes the diversity of Ontario makes us strong. She is running for the Green Party to fight so all people have the same access and opportunities in life.
Janelle graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto with a Honours Bachelors of Arts degree majoring in Equity Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. Her formal education combined with her work in the educational non-profit sector as Manager of Operations at Harmony Movement has given her the skills and tools to review policies and consider others’ experiences to make the best decisions for the greater good.
Janelle values the long-term, forward-thinking policies of the Green Party and believes those in power need to take action to protect all Ontarians from the present and future effects of climate change. She recognizes that some people have faced more barriers than others. Ontario is strongest when every individual has equal opportunities and access to education, healthcare and jobs. The provincial government has the power to create impactful change to protect the planet and address systemic disparities.
Janelle lives her values by making every day decisions. She enjoys biking to work, people watching on transit and enjoying local, organic foods. She has shown her commitment to the community including volunteering at the Oriole Food Bank and North York Women’s Shelter. She recognizes that every individual needs to do what they can to protect the planet for future generations, while not forgetting about the present struggles people face.
Janelle understands that often we get caught up in the day-to-day and do not always have time to pay attention or put energy into our politics. That is why she believes we need to elect the Green Party to address inequity and climate change so you can focus on what matters most to you.
