(Queen’s Park): GPO leader Mike Schreiner made the following statement on the new sitting of the Legislature:
“People in Ontario deserve better.
The world is a stressful place right now. Our dreams of getting ahead slip farther away as daily expenses like hydro and housing keep going up.
It’s clear we need real change instead of the typical political games at Queen’s Park.
Typical politics goes something like this. Liberals make policy in a way that benefits the Liberal party. The PC and NDP parties criticize without offering solutions. Rinse and repeat.
In contrast, the Green Party commits to offering concrete solutions. We will work with any party on solutions that put people first.
The Green Party’s priorities for the spring sitting will be working for change to:
1. Reduce electricity price increases.
The Green Party solution: cancel billion dollar nuclear rebuilds and don’t sell more of Hydro One. Use the savings to invest in your home to help you save money by saving energy. This will provide short and long-term relief from rising electricity bills.
2. Create jobs by supporting small businesses.
The Green Party solution: reform business support programs to prioritize small business grants over corporate welfare. Lower payroll taxes on small businesses by raising the Employer Health Tax Exemption. This will make it less expensive for small businesses to create jobs.
3. Put money in your pocket while fighting climate change.
The Green Party solution: fix the the climate change plan with a revenue neutral carbon fee and dividend. Money goes directly back to citizens like you. Lower greenhouse gas emissions will help reduce the negative effects of climate change. Your carbon dividend will make it easier for you to lower your carbon footprint.
4. Promote healthy people and communities.
The Green Party solution: permanently protect our water and farmland. Make sure each person in Ontario has enough money to make ends meet. Water, food and enough money for the basics gives a person a fighting chance to stay healthy.
The GPO is on a mission to bring honesty, integrity and good public policy back to Queen’s Park.”
