Mike & Team

Kara Flannigan is committed to protecting the environment, believing climate change is one of the biggest threats to public health and our communities. She is proud to call Sault Ste. Marie, the best kept secret in Ontario, home for the past 30 years.

The commitment of the city of Sault Ste. Marie to becoming the alternative energy capital of North America shows we can do better, and the Green Party is the best way forward. Her work in public health affords her the opportunity to help protect our food, water, and natural and man-made environments.

After graduating, she moved to beautiful Northern Ontario to begin her work in public health. She has been active in her professional organization as a member of the executive for member services, and working on committees such as food safety and communicable diseases. She was a member for more than 10 years of the local Binational Public Advisory Council for the St. Mary’s River for the International Joint Commission for the clean-up of the Great Lakes.

Kara has been a member and volunteer of Clean North since it began in 1989, promoting environmental protection through reduction, reuse and recycling.

As a member of Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie, she supports advancing the status of women through service, advocacy, fellowships and educational programs. She is a member of the Art Gallery of Algoma and the Sault Ste. Marie Arts Council, and enjoys supporting the local music, arts, and theatre of the many talented people in the community.

Kara has supported the Green Party of many years because of their efforts to protect the environment, promote social justice, and improve government function and transparency. The GPO acknowledges that our electoral system needs big changes to increase voter turnout and to help restore public faith in our democratic institutions.

She looks forward to working for change in Sault Ste Marie.
