King Township will not join the legal action launched by the leader of the Green Party of Ontario and residents over the province’s decision to exempt the York Energy Centre from provisions of the planning act.
King council opted Monday to take a neutral stance on the legal action initiated last month.

Treat Hull, 61, of Picton announced Tuesday he'll seek the nomination.

A vigilant group of King residents are looking out for their neighbours and standing up for municipalities across Ontario.

A decision was made by the province to build a gasfired electrical peaker plant on protected countryside in King Township. By filing a legal claim asking for a judicial review of the process leading to this decision, these brave citizens are simply asking for due process.

The Green Party of Ontario was happy with the news.

"Today's announcement represents a complete victory for the supporters of community based solar power and the GPO. Ontario has modified a proposal to significantly reduce what it pays for groundmounted solar power, to the great relief of a local solar equipment supplier and others in the emerging industry.

The government announced Friday it was reinstating the 80.2-cent rate for thousands of microFIT energy program applicants who applied prior to the rate reduction proposed July 2. Those applying after that date will receive 64.2 cents, slightly more than the rate floated last month.
