Members have an important role in shaping the direction of the Green Party of Ontario. You are invited to propose Policy, Constitutional or Directive resolutions to be considered at our Convention. It is strongly recommended that you propose resolutions using the form provided.

Submitting Resolutions

To submit constitutional, bylaw, or directive resolutions, you must:

  • be a member in good standing
  • have your resolution sponsored by at least 3 additional current members.

To submit policy resolutions, you must:

  • be a member in good standing
  • have your resolution sponsored by at least 3 additional current members AND
  • be sponsored by the Shadow Cabinet Critic or Policy Coordinator ( OR be seconded by 5 additional sponsors who are members of the Party in good standing.

Tips to help you prepare a policy resolution:

  • Visit ​Policy process: questions and answers

  • Make sure your GPO membership is current (call 888-647-3366 or email

  • Check for compatibility of your motion with the Values of the GPO

  • Compile links or citations for any background readings on the subject

  • Compile the names of other members who will sponsor your motion

  • Know the name of the Shadow Cabinet critic who will sponsor you policy motion, if applicable

  • Choose a short but descriptive title of the motion

  • Write short preamble clauses to the motion

  • Write the substantial or operative text of the motion

Draft resolutions can be submitted starting February 18, 2017 and will be accepted until March 18, 2017. You are encouraged to submit policy before March 18, 2017. 

The final deadline for submitted resolutions for the 2017 AGM is Friday, April 7 at 5 PM.

Resolutions will be available online after the draft resolution deadline. 
You can vote on resolutions in person at the conference. If you are unable to attend the conference, you can assign your proxy to someone attending the conference from your riding. 
Proxy Voting

If your riding has a registered Constituency Association, up to 9 members in your riding can assign their proxy to you to vote at the conference on policy, constitutional and directive motions.
To have proxy votes assigned to you, you will need to complete the AGM Proxy Form. Note that the President for your Constituency Association will need to validate the form. 
In lieu of a signature from a member, an print out of an email from the member authorizing you to carry their proxy will be accepted.
