Position Title: Software Developer - Ruby on Rails

Start Date: as soon as possible
Location: Ottawa preferred
Type: Full-time, salary (16 month term)

Summary:

You’re a rails developer, that’s awesome. There are a lot of opportunities out there, but not many of them involve directly working on making Ontario a better place. 

The Green Party of Ontario (GPO) is currently hiring a rails developer to build exciting voter contact applications. By joining our small, dynamic team you will be directly involved in the planning, implementing and maintaining of voter contact applications throughout the 2018 general provincial election.

We are looking for a developer with enough experience to be able to start pushing code on day one, but you don’t necessarily need years of experience.

Requirements:

  • produce quality rails application code

Qualifications:

  • experience developing applications in Ruby on Rails
  • practiced test-driven development and judicious refactoring
  • willingness to live and work in Ottawa

Position Title: Director of Technical Services

The Green Party of Ontario (GPO) is currently hiring a Director of Technical Services to manage our website (gpo.ca) and database. By joining our small, dynamic team you will be directly involved in planning, implementing and maintaining our web and data applications through the 2018 General Provincial Election.

We are looking for a professional with enough experience to be responsible for results-based management of the Technical Services department, including managing staff and budget.

Major Tasks

  • Development
    • extend CMS/database system to meet team needs
  • Technical support
    • ensure all technical support issues are handled appropriately and in a timely manner
    • ensure smooth office equipment technical functioning
  • Content management
    • handle content management needs 
  • Data management
    • create custom reports to meet team needs
    • satisfy various requests for data from Party entities
    • develop and maintain documentation and data management protocols
    • assist with data analysis and segmentation
  • Web design/social media
    • contribute to web and social media planning/strategies
    • work with graphic designers to implement new website and social media layout features
    • create specialized landing pages for special projects
  • System administration
    • server maintenance and setup
    • manage servers
    • manage web services
    • email services
    • database services
    • file-sharing/backup services
  • Other duties as described in the annual plan (aka: all the things)

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated technical problem solving proficiency 
  • Ability to multitask and work well in a fast-paced environment 
  • Experienced with/in: 
    • HTML and CSS    
    • CRMs and CMS
    • Drupal, including custom Drupal code / modules an asset
    • MySQL 
    • Server set-up and maintenance
  • Bonus: 
    • 5+ years in a technology related field 
    • 2+ years in a management-related position 
    • interest in the Green Party and politics in Ontario
