Pink Shirt Day

Wed, 02/22/2017 - 13:30

GPO Leader Mike Schreiner issued the following statement on Pink Shirt Day:

"Today on Pink Shirt Day, we come together to celebrate and reinforce the message that a group of courageous Nova Scotian high school students mobilized around in response to an incident of bullying.

Pink Shirt Day provides an important example of the power of student initiatives in the fight against bullying. This initiative is now celebrated in communities across Ontario in order to celebrate diversity and create a more tolerant society.

We are fortunate to live in a country where diversity and difference is celebrated. But we must acknowledge that bullying is still a major problem in our schools, places of work, and on the Internet.
It is crucial that we aim to eliminate all forms of bullying and discrimination, especially in schools where attitudes and ideas about how people should treat others are formed.

Will you join us in showing solidarity by wearing pink today?

The GPO would like to celebrate all who have spoken out against bullying in communities across the province. It is never too late to take a stand against discrimination"
